Many people have stubborn fat that they just can’t get rid of. Tired of carrying around excess baggage? If exercise and dieting didn’t help you lose those inches from areas like your arms, neck, or thighs, liposuction is the perfect solution for you.

With liposuction, you can have a sculpted abdomen or neck or trimmer thighs, arms, or hips. Bat wings, a protruding abdomen, and bulging thighs can all be reduced in volume, giving you shapelier contours. You can finally wear those clothes that you put away because of excess body fat!

Ideal Candidates for Liposuction

If you are within 30 % of the ideal weight prescribed for your height and age, you are a good candidate for liposuction. Those with health conditions or allergies prior to performing the procedure may not be suitable for liposuction, as these could potentially lead to complications.

Preparing for the Liposuction Procedure

A prior consultation with your surgeon will be an opportunity to discuss all the details of the liposuction procedure, including how the surgery will be performed and what to expect for your post-surgical healing process. Your surgeon will also take photographs for a before-and-after comparison.

The doctor will also make a detailed assessment of your health and order any additional required labs or tests. You may be asked to stop smoking before and after the procedure to help you heal faster. Certain medications that can interfere with the blood-clotting mechanism should also be stopped.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Liposuction is performed at an outpatient facility or accredited doctor’s office. You will not be required to stay overnight at the facility and will instead be able to return home that same day.

Prior to the procedure, you might be given antibiotics to reduce any chances of infections. You will be given anesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable, usually general anesthesia.

The area where excess fat has to be removed is first marked by the surgeon. Tiny incisions are made in the skin, after which a cannula (a hollow tube with a sharp end) is inserted. A vacuum device is connected to the cannula. The surgeon loosens the fat by making forward and backward movements with the cannula, and the vacuum is used to suction out the fat.

The area is covered using elastic bandages and a compression garment. The compression garment is required to be worn for three to four weeks to control bruising and swelling and to help the skin better contour to the new shape of the region. You will be able to resume your normal activities within a few days. Heavy exercise is not recommended until the area completely heals.

A marked change in contour and volume after the recovery phase will be evident. The stubborn fat deposits will have disappeared, and you will be left with firmer skin and shapelier curves. The results are permanent if you make sure to maintain your weight after the procedure.
